What is “Is Pinnable”?
The NEW “Pinnable” feature was created to improve the Quicklaunch experience with small tabletop consoles and touchscreens in multi-display meeting room environments. In some cases, it is desirable to have these monitors act as dedicated consoles. We recommend our Quicklaunch Solution Partner, Mimo Monitors, Vue HD Displays.
Making a screen “Pinnable” facilitates this by keeping Quicklaunch full screen on this monitor regardless of what is happening on other monitors. Unpinning a “Pinnable” Quicklaunch screen allows it to be moved, minimized or resized just like any other desktop window. All of this can be configured in settings.
Note – Using “Pinnable” in a single monitor environment is not recommended. Similarly, placing the app bar on the same monitor as a “Pinnable” screen is not recommended. While both of these options are technically feasible, they lead to a situation where the system can be confusing to users and difficult to use.
Available New Icons
The first button is the familiar minimize. It minimizes the Quicklaunch main screen and makes the entire screen of the tablet available for use.
The second button is “Pinnable” and this scales the Quicklaunch main screen to a preset size so that it may be dragged to whatever position on the screen is most desired. This button is also used to restore Quicklaunch to full screen.
To Enable Pinnable Mode
After entering Quicklaunch setting (Crtl-Alt-S)
- Select Display and then the Fullscreen tab
- Select the screen you wish to make Pinnable
- Select Pinnable Behavior
- Set Layer
Using Pinnable Mode
For example, Screen 1 is a large conference room screen and screen 2 is a 10-inch touchscreen on the conference table. Screen 2 is set as “Is Pinnable” in the settings.
Screen 1 appears as normal but Screen 2 now has two new buttons on the title bar.
The first button is the familiar minimize. It minimizes the Quicklaunch main screen and makes the entire screen of the console available for use.
In order to restore to full screen click the Quicklaunch Icon in the windows task bar.
The second button is “Pinnable” and this scales the Quicklaunch main screen to a preset size that was previously set in setup so that it may be dragged to whatever position on the screen is most desired.
From this position you may then minimize by or restore to full screen by choosing the appriate icon.
While Quicklaunch in Pinnable mode is meant to be always on (visible) or persistent on the console, there may be times when you want to use an application on the console. It will start ‘on top’ of the console in this mode. This may be utilized for room controls or other applications. You can also drag an application on top of the console, for example if you want to enter a password but do not want it on the front of the room display.
