Best Practices for Skype for Business SFB S4B SKype4B


IMPORTANT: The location of settings you configure depend on where the User launches Skype for Business (S4B) from within Quicklaunch. See below:


Joining S4B Meeting from the Quicklaunch Calendar = Settings > Calendar > Meetings > Skype4B



S4B using an Action Tile = Settings > Actions > Actions > [Collaborate]

1) Installation

Install the S4B Client and Sign in to S4B. This will only have to be done once.


Next, install Quicklaunch. During installation, choose Exchange Calendar and S4B on the Accounts Screen. See the relevant Deployment Guide for more detailed installation information (Ultimate Edition, Professional Edition, Standard Edition).


Enter the S4B credentials being used in this meeting room.


Click Next and enter in Exchange credentials associated with the S4B account.

NOTE: It is recommended to not install/setup Outlook on the Meeting Room PC



2) Skype for Business Settings

Open S4B Options by pressing the gear icon.


Some recommended settings are shown here. Namely, Enable auto start S4B, Disable Start app in the foreground. The rest are optional and should be set to fit the needs of your organisation.


Take note of or edit the path in File Saving and Recording. With Quicklaunch Ultimate and Professional, these locations can be set to automatically zipped and/or deleted.



Under Skype Meetings select show IM and Show the participant list.


Optionally prevent IM conversations and call logs from being saved 






3) Quicklaunch Calendar Settings

This section describes how to customise the behaviour of S4B when it is joined from the Quicklaunch Calendar.


Enter Quicklaunch Settings be selecting CTRL + ALT + S on your keyboard. Navigate to Calendar > Meetings > Skype4B


To ensure the S4B Meeting starts with audio and video, select the two relevant boxes.


To ensure the S4B Meeting starts in fullscreen on the proper display, Display Rules can be configured by selecting the plus icon. 


Delete the entry that includes the version of S4B you do not have installed by pressing the "x" icon. The rest of the Display Rules can be configured. If you need more help with Display Rules, see Display Rules Overview.





4) Quicklaunch Action Tile Settings


This section describes how to customise the behaviour of S4B when it is launched from an Action Tile


Enter Quicklaunch Settings be selecting CTRL + ALT + S on your keyboard. Navigate to Settings > Actions > Actions > [Collaborate]



Select the Action Tile you want to customise the function of. You can also add or remove Action Tiles using the "+" and "x" at the bottom.

IMPORTANT: The settings available for each Action Tile are identical. Each Action Tile requires its settings to be edited individually.

5) Miscellaneous Quicklaunch Settings and Questions


1: Suppress S4B Main Window

Enter Quicklaunch Settings be selecting CTRL + ALT + S on your keyboard. Navigate to Settings > System > General  and select Suppress Skype4B Main Window




The S4B Main Window will no longer be shown.





2: S4B Share Desktop Action Tile: How do I select which screen to share?


Enter Quicklaunch Settings be selecting CTRL + ALT + S on your keyboard. Navigate to Settings > Actions > Actions > [Collaborate] > Skype4B Share Desktop

Under the Monitor to Share list select the desired monitor.

You can identify the screens with the button on the right.






3: Room Booking - How should Users book the meeting room?

Users should book via either Exchange Web Services or Outlook Web Access.




4: Difference Between Dial Pad and Phone


The Dial Pad Action Tile launches the S4B Dialer. 


The Phone Action Tile will immediately launch a video meeting with the contact selected on the screen displayed.
